Volunteer Job Descriptions
Child Passenger Safety (CPS):Â Volunteers assist in installing and teaching installation of child passenger seats. Participants must successfully complete a 32-40 hour Car Seat Safety Technician certification program.
Community Education:Â Volunteers staff educational booths, and provide information to the public at community fairs, special events, and school events.
Deliveries: Volunteers deliver supplies to Fire Stations. Supplies may include kids’ goodie bags for stations tours, brochures, and equipment used for educational presentations.
Emergency Drills/Role Playing:Â Volunteers assist with disaster drills, apply moulage injury make-up and play disaster victims for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Fire Department drills. Volunteers may also participate in role-playing for classes that teach staff to work with the media and how to respond to citizens.
Fairs, Special Events, Awards Ceremonies:Â Volunteers provide assistance with various special events, and fire stations, and assist at Fire District functions including Awards ceremonies and Recognition events.
Firefighter Robby:Â Â This is a 10-foot tall walk-around inflatable costume. He goes to Fairs and special events, interacting silently and high-fiving children and adults.
Hands-Only CPR:Â Volunteers will be trained to facilitate hands-only CPR training to the public at various events. Hands-only CPR is a compression only resuscitation for sudden cardiac arrest.
Office Work:Â Volunteers fill goodie bags for children and senior citizens. These bags are distributed at presentations and events. Additional tasks may include typing, filing, computer projects, scheduling events or answering phones in a variety of departments.
Spark of Love:Â Volunteers assist with holiday gift collections in December, picking up donations from Ventura County Fire Stations and taking them to a distribution site.
Station Coverage:Â Volunteers cover shifts at Fire Stations during special events, including Election Day at Stations that are designated as polling places. Volunteers are a presence at the Station in the event the crew leaves on a call.
